Summer conference for adult education

This one-day conference organised by CILT, the National Centre for Languages gives teachers and managers of language programmes the opportunity to come together and consider the way forward for adult language learning. Plenary panel sessions cover topics including policy, funding and planning, while workshops for those leading and teaching language programmes covers key areas such as classroom practice, updated information on accreditation resources and activities for use in adult language lessons.

Mastering public service interpreting

This one-day conference held at London Metropolitan University brings together employers, practising interpreters, trainers and academics to discuss professional development and training for this expanding sector. The programme brings together keynote speakers from Universities in Spain and the USA as well as a range of seminar sessions.

Language taster sessions

Birkbeck College, Stratford

Learn how to impress visitors to the 2012 Games by picking up some of their language.  Taster sessions in four major European languages will be given by tutors from the language school of Birkbeck, University of London. Come to one language, or come to all four! Timings: 14:00 - French, 14:30 - Spanish, 15:00 - German, 15:30 - Portuguese.

The Language Show

The Language Show is the UK's biggest event for language learners, teachers, linguists and anyone with a love for languages. The show offers language enthusiasts all the help, advice and resources needed to learn or teach languages under one roof.

A dedicated Language Careers Fair for jobseekers is also open throughout the show, sponsored this year by multilingualvacancies.com. The event is completely free for visitors to attend, so both direct employers and recruitment consultancies will have access to the widest possible pool of multilingual talent. Translating and the computer

19-20 November 2009
Congress Centre, London

This conference organised by Aslib is supported by a large number of bodies including the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, and European and International Associations for Machine Translation. The Aslib event draws together a diverse group of delegates, who gain new insights and brainstorm ideas on the use of information technology for translation.
