Languages WorkThrough the Languages Work campaign, CILT, the National Centre for Languages has created a wide range of careers resources for languages, which are also listed in our career publications area. Work Talk factsheet
A general introduction to careers using languages, aimed at older students and adult jobseekers.

Making Sense: A career in translation and interpreting
This factsheet, produced in conjunction with professional bodies, includes case studies, links for further information and a short quiz. Suitable for ages 16+.

Careers in translation
This factsheet outlines the different career paths available to professional translators, including those working on computing software and film subtitling.

Mixing It Up: Combining a language with your chosen university course
A comprehensive factsheet aimed at older students, providing case studies, information and advice on combining languages with other degree options at university.

This Languages Work presentation provides a ready-made show for a talk or discussion at school, college or university. You can also download the notes pages.

Why study languages?
The slide-show by the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies works very well on a loop at exhibitions or careers days.

Languages Work CD-ROM
This introductory CD-ROM includes short video clips of people using languages in their jobs.

The Real World of Languages

Produced by Routes into Languages and RLN London to show school students just how valuable languages are for their career, 'The Real World of Languages' features BBC diplomatic correspondent Bridget Kendall as well as award-winning language champions Hotel La Place and British Airways.

Capital L - Routes into Languages

This HEFCE-funded project is led in London by SOAS and London Metropolitan University and aims to encourage young people to continue with their language learning.
