Community Health Interpreting Course

2 September to 16 December 2008

The Language Service at FinFuture in partnership with Camden Primary Care Trust is offering a training course, with funding from the London Development Agency, for people interested in working as an interpreter. They are looking for people who:

  • Speak English and another language fluently
  • Are interested in developing their interpreting skills
  • Have experience of acting as an interpreter in public services in the UK
  • Have only qualifications up to NVQ Level 1 or equivalent in the UK or all other qualifications gained abroad.

It is helping businesses and people from across London to understand the expectations of these international visitors from a customer service point of view, and to find out a little about different countries and languages.

This is one of a series of one-day workshops that can help you go that extra mile. All workshops are free of charge and every participant takes away a range of resources, including a course guide, eleven country profiles and a handy phrase book. The course is available for London residents only.

Business Language Champions celebration event

17 March 2008
Foreign and Commonwealth Office, London

RLN London was joined by many of its partners involved in the Business Language Champions programme at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to celebrate the activities that had taken place over the previous few months - bringing schools and businesses across London closer together. Students competed to create the best foreign language poster, with Hornsey School being crowned the winners.

Camden Enterprise Week

RLN London supported Camden Enterprise Week with a seminar on growing an international business from a languages and cultural perspective - with France and Belgium particularly in mind. Making the most of Community Languages

When Londoners are conservatively estimated to speak 300 languages, it begs the question - how can we harness this linguistic diversity for new business, employment and training opportunities?

With these objectives in mind, Regional Language Network held this very successful consultation event with over 40 delegates in attendance.

ITIC 21 - The Institute of Translation and Interpreting's Anniversary Conference

21-22 April 2007

ITI Conferences are always a combination of interesting presentations, fine company and an active social programme, and this year was no exception. Held at the Rembrandt Hotel in Knightsbridge, the event included presentations from Juana Lahousse-Juárez, Director General for Translation and Interpreting at the European Parliament - as well as spots from both Gill Musk at CILT on National Occupational Standards, and Jane Collis from Regional Language Network London - on opportunities for linguists in the run-up to the 2012 Games.
