Cultural training

Why does culture matter?

Cultural knowledge and awareness is crucial for success and effective business communication with your customers and employees - whether they are overseas or based in the UK. Invest in cultural training for your staff so that they interact effectively from the start, avoiding misunderstandings and saving time and money.

Culture affects the degree of formality in relationships, the way decisions are made, how meetings and negotiations are conducted and attitudes to punctuality, gender, age and status. Knowledge of greetings, body language, eye contact, dress codes and diet will help you to create a good first impression and maintain relationships with your clients.

Cultural resources and training

Our cultural briefings and resources give you a quick introduction to a number of countries and cultures - for international trade and customer service.

Cultural training can help build your cross-cultural knowledge and develop your intercultural skills - so that you communicate flexibly and sensitively and, where necessary, adapt your business practices for success.

  • Take advantage of the cultural expertise in your teams - someone may have the background and experience to provide brief staff.
  • Select qualified and accredited trainers for Intercultural training, Diversity training or Working in international teams training.
  • For culture-specific training such as Relocation training or 'Doing business with...' a particular country, ensure that the trainer is a native of the culture in question or has spent several years working and living there recently.
  • Ask potential suppliers whether they use the National Occupational Standards for Intercultural Working to benchmark their programmes.
